Crown Night

Your story

Two sealed commands. One disputed crown. The old king is dead, and before dawn the border army could turn against itself. As acting Keeper of Seals, you must restore a royal record, follow a disputed grain account and decide whose bargain the kingdom can afford.

Paper evidence can settle a fact. It cannot make the cost of your decision disappear.

What you will do

• Restore the record: compare seal impressions, make one marked fold and join the recovered leaves.
• Follow the grain: annotate accounts and weigh receipts against testimony.
• Plan the night roads: trace a convoy route and balance cargo and travel watches within your chosen pact.

Report your findings in the Night Office, read the characters’ written responses and see your supply plan carried out. Three investigations and three political decisions lead to four main endings. This is a succession crisis; the investigation does not establish the old king’s cause of death.

Digital files only. No printed materials or physical props are shipped. The gallery includes original game artwork and previews of the supplied game materials.

Prepare your table

• Print: eight ordinary, opaque US Letter sheets (8.5 × 11 in), single-sided, in grayscale or black and white, at Actual Size / 100%.
• Bring: a pencil and a flat space for two sheets. One marked fold is required; no cutting, glue or special paper. The ash test is fictional and already done in the story; do not heat or burn your printouts.
• Use: a desktop or laptop with JavaScript enabled. Chrome on Windows 11 is the target setup.

A printer and access to the downloaded files are required. A4, mobile, multiplayer and a complete no-print mode are outside this edition’s setup.

Download and begin

Download the ZIP from your order’s download entry and extract every file into one folder. Read Read-me-first.txt, print Print.pdf, then open Night-Office.html. Keep Pages 5–8 face down until the story asks for them.

The extracted game works offline and requires no game account. Downloading the files requires an internet connection.

Playing, pausing and replaying

Play at your own pace: there is no real countdown and no guaranteed completion time. To pause, copy the displayed recovery code and use Resume when you return.

There is no automatic or cloud save. A recovery code restores a completed checkpoint and clears unsubmitted entries and your private closing note, so copy notes you want to keep. The puzzle content is fixed; prior knowledge changes a replay.

Personal use and help

Personal, non-commercial play and printing for your household are included. Keep private backups and reprint for that use. Resale, redistribution, public file sharing and commercial hosted sessions require separate permission.
